A great success for the 4th edition of RDV OACIQ, held under the theme of "Ethics in all circumstances"

Brossard, October 14, 2021 – The RDV OACIQ, a conference and flagship event of the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ), was held online for the very first time. Hundreds of participants – real estate brokers, agency executive officers, students and industry partners – from across Quebec attended the event online.

The RDV OACIQ 2021 revolved around the theme of “Ethics in all circumstances” and enabled participants to enhance their knowledge on various topics related to their practice. The topics addressed during this event included conflict of interest, cybersecurity, money laundering, as well as the changing needs of consumers and their impact on the real estate brokerage industry. The event was facilitated by Pierre Craig, who dedicated his career to serving the public as a journalist and host, primarily at Radio-Canada.

"The RDV OACIQ is a key annual event that helps real estate brokers expand their knowledge and review their practices to better inform and advise consumers in their real estate transactions,” said Nadine Lindsay, President and Chief Executive Officer of the OACIQ, when opening the event. "This year, we have decided to place ethics at the heart of our discussions, because without ethics, there can be no trust.”

On this occasion, renowned speakers gave participants food for thought on the various aspects of ethics. One of the highlights of the event was the conference "Conflict of interest and real estate brokerage: What are the ethical issues?” by Professor and Consultant Marc Jean. The conference shed light on these issues and provided some very interesting solutions based on independence and awareness of the other.

Steve Waterhouse, a leading cybersecurity expert, provided ways to better protect personal and client information and suggested practical strategies to do that.  For his part, Frank Jovanovic, Professor of Economics and Finance at TÉLUQ University, discussed the risks related to money laundering in the real estate industry in Québec, the indicators to detect money laundering attempts and how to act in such circumstances.

In the afternoon, an interactive quiz gave participants the opportunity to test their knowledge by answering questions that are most frequently asked to Info OACIQ agents. The next part of the program was a discussion moderated by Pierre Craig on the changing needs of consumers.  Jacques Nantel, Professor Emeritus, Yvon Rudolphe, Professor at UQAM and Georges Bardagi, OACIQ Licence Holder with agency executive officer’s qualifications, discussed the impact of the pandemic on consumer needs and the real estate brokerage practice. The event ended with the mental preparation expert Jean François Ménard, who educated participants on how to develop mental flexibility and become aware of the impact of their attitude on their performance and that of others.

Pierre Hamel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the OACIQ, congratulated the participants who attended the event: "In the midst of the booming real estate market of the past few months, making the right decisions and acting ethically at all times made perfect sense, as client interests had to be looked after. Here you are now better equipped at the end of this event."
