The OACIQ is requesting the provisional suspension of real estate brokers Christine Girouard and Jonathan Dauphinais-Fortin

Brossard, May 26, 2023 – The Syndic of the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) has gathered enough evidence about the alleged actions of Christine Girouard and Jonathan Dauphinais-Fortin to file a disciplinary complaint and a motion for provisional suspension of their licences with the OACIQ Discipline Committee.  The Discipline Committee is an autonomous and independent entity of the OACIQ created under the Real Estate Brokerage Act.

The Syndic alleges that Christine Girouard and Jonathan Dauphinais-Fortin set up a fraudulent scheme to encourage buyers to enhance their initial promise to purchase, notably by submitting a bogus promise to purchase to sellers.

The Discipline Committee will hear the parties on May 31, 2023, and will rule on the Syndic's request. The motion for provisional suspension is an emergency procedure to protect the public. If it is accepted by the Discipline Committee, Ms. Girouard and Mr. Dauphinais-Fortin will no longer be able to engage in brokerage activities until the case is heard on its merits before the Discipline Committee. Christine Girouard and Jonathan Dauphinais-Fortin could face sanctions up to and including a permanent suspension.

In the meantime, an administrative proceeding has led to the provisional suspension of their licences, following a notice from the real estate agency RE/MAX d'ICI, which has terminated the activities of Christine Girouard and Jonathan Dauphinais-Fortin who were acting on its behalf. This notice was posted on the OACIQ Register of licence holders on May 19, 2023. Ms. Girouard and Mr. Dauphinais-Fortin may no longer carry out real estate brokerage activities.
