Procedures and conditions for taking the OACIQ examination

You must successfully complete a basic training recognized by the OACIQ before registering for a certification examination.

Step 1: Apply for an OACIQ exam

After consulting the  exam calendar  to see the date that suits you, fill out the ''Examination Application'' form on the Certifications Forms page. It is important to attach all the required documents to the duly completed form and send everything to the OACIQ, along with the applicable fees, no later than the last day of the registration period specified in the calendar of examinations, under Details. If this deadline is not met, the applicant will be registered for the next available examination date, as per the Calendar of examinations.

Please note: In the context of COVID-19 and to comply with the 1.5-metre rule prescribed by the government, no more than 50 candidates can attend each exam session. Thus, the calendar may show sessions that are already full. The OACIQ is aware of the situation and, in the circumstances, is making every effort to minimize delays and maximize the number of sessions offered.

Step 2: Notice of examination

The OACIQ will confirm the time and place of the examination by mail, at least one week before the scheduled date.

Step 3: Taking the examination

You must appear to write the exam and show a valid photo ID on each day of the examination. Valid ID documents are the following:

  • Valid driver’s license issued in Canada;
  • Provincial Health Insurance Card;
  • Canadian Passport;
  • Permanent Resident Card;
  • OACIQ licence.

It is recommended to arrive 15 minutes before the time scheduled for the examination.

Instructions will be handed out and read before the examination, but note that no programmable calculators and no documents are allowed.

That's it, you have now taken the exam! Go to the Steps to follow to become a broker page for the remaining steps before obtaining your licence.

If you are registered for the English exam, you will have to provide documents showing that you meet the French language requirements. For more details in this regard or if you have any other questions, please check our FAQ - OACIQ certification examination.
